Bay Area Newborn Photographer

If you’ve ever wished you could freeze time
And hold onto these tiny people just as they are

These first days are unlike anything else. The weight of your baby in your arms. The way they smell. The impossibly small fingers. You already know this won’t last — and somewhere in the middle of the exhaustion and the wonder, you want to hold onto it.

That’s exactly what Bay Area newborn photography is for. And that’s exactly what I’m here for.

I’ll take care of everything

From the moment you reach out, my goal is to make this feel easy. I handle the styling, the props, the wraps, and every detail in between — so you don’t have to think about any of it. Before your session, I’ll walk you through exactly what to expect so you can show up feeling calm and prepared.

On the day of your session, we follow your baby’s lead. There’s time to feed, to soothe, to simply hold your baby — however long it takes. There’s no rushing, no pressure, and nothing for you to figure out in the moment.

Your only job is to show up. I’ll handle the rest.

About Your Newborn Photographer in the Bay Area

Hi, I’m Megan — a newborn photographer in the Bay Area and a mom of five who understands the deep desire to hold onto these earliest days. I know what it’s like to be in the middle of a season and already feel it slipping away. The way a newborn curls into your chest. The sound of little feet on the floor in the morning. The chaos and the closeness all at once. These are the moments you want to hold onto, and photography is how we do that.

I offer newborn photography throughout Alameda and the San Francisco Bay Area — in my Alameda studio or in your home — creating sessions that feel calm, unhurried, and natural, so you can simply be present while I take care of preserving the rest.

Kind words from a new parent

“At a time when I hadn’t even let close friends or family hold our newborn I felt safe and confident allowing Megan to. She was so gentle with our baby and also found ways to engage our toddler who was adjusting to not being the only child anymore which meant a lot to us all.”

Questions About Your Session

Newborn sessions at my Alameda newborn photography studio are typically photographed within the first 1–3 weeks of life, when babies are still naturally sleepy and curled. Because I specialize in a soft, wrapped style, sessions can comfortably take place up to 3–4 weeks old — and often even beyond.

If your baby is already older, don’t hesitate to reach out. I regularly photograph older newborns and will tailor the session to your baby’s stage and comfort. We’ll find the best timing for your family.

Many families reserve their newborn session during the second or early third trimester to ensure availability around their due date. I schedule sessions approximately one week after your due date and adjust as needed once your baby arrives.

If your baby is already here, don’t hesitate to reach out. I intentionally leave space in my calendar each month for newborn sessions when possible.

Newborn sessions take place in my Alameda newborn photography studio or in your home.

My Alameda studio is thoughtfully designed for newborn photography — a calm, comfortable space with everything needed for a beautiful session. You can read more about what a studio newborn session looks like here.

For in-home sessions, I bring a curated collection of wraps and simple accessories so you don’t need to prepare anything beyond your baby. I also share more about what to expect during an in-home newborn session here.

If you’re unsure which option is the best fit, I’m happy to help you decide.

We follow your baby’s cues and take all the time we need to make sure your baby is happy and comfortable throughout the session. We leave plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, cuddling, and soothing to ensure a relaxed session. Most sessions last around one to two hours.

Absolutely. I encourage siblings and parents to be included — the arrival of a new baby is a family moment, and some of the most meaningful portraits from a Bay Area newborn photography session come from those connections. We’ll make room for everyone while keeping the session calm and comfortable for your little ones.

Parents are always welcome to be included in your Bay Area newborn session, but there’s never any pressure. Some families choose to focus entirely on their baby, while others love having a few quiet moments captured together.

If you’re unsure, we can photograph a few portraits with parents during your session. At your ordering appointment, you’ll decide what feels right to keep and display — so there’s no need to make that decision ahead of time.

Light neutrals, soft tones, and simple solids work beautifully — creams, soft grays, warm whites, and muted earth tones keep the focus on connection rather than clothing. I recommend avoiding bold patterns and perfectly matching outfits.

You don’t need to have everything figured out ahead of time — I provide wardrobe guidance before your session and have a small, curated client wardrobe available as well. My goal is to make this part feel simple and stress-free.

After your session, we’ll schedule your ordering appointment where you’ll view your portraits and choose the collection and artwork that feel right for your family.

You’ll see a carefully curated gallery from your Bay Area newborn photography session, and I’ll guide you through selecting your favorites and deciding how you’d like them to live in your home — whether through fine art prints, albums, or custom wall displays.

Once your selections are made, I handle all editing, retouching, and product ordering so everything arrives ready to enjoy.

You can learn more about the investment and artwork options on my Investment page.

The health and safety of your newborn is my highest priority. As a parent myself, I understand how important it is to protect a newborn’s delicate immune system. My studio and props are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between every session, and if anyone is unwell we’ll reschedule without hesitation.

Every pose is simple, comfortable, and designed with your baby’s safety in mind. I never use unsafe poses or unstable props — just gentle, natural positions that keep your baby secure and at ease throughout the session.
